Network Diagram - Physical
Company: Network Administrator
- Setup
- Install Microsoft Visio or Wondershare EdrawMax.
- Gather a barebones blueprint in PDF form of each site (few/no identifiers, simply walls, doors, etc.).
- Download/import stencils for physical infrastructure (e.g. Cisco, Panduit, etc.).
- On the first tab, create standard layers (e.g. Room numbers, port numbers, port type, cabling paths, access points, phones, ceiling type, etc.).
- Add stencil icons you want to use for each layer and assign them to the layer, then replace that icon in your stencil with the layered one. This includes creating a template for room numbers.
- Create a legend on the page allowing for future device counts. Assign each legend item to the appropriate layer(s).
- Copy the first tab to as many tabs as required for all sites, naming each tab as you go (site code), or after. Alphabetical is preferred.
- For each site, import the appropriate blueprint, or as you go.
- Add stencils to the diagram, bringing layers to front/back and hiding them as desired.
- Label devices with information as needed.
