• Install Microsoft Visio (or Wondershare EdrawMax)
• Create logical topology templates for sites based on common number of server rooms (templates for 3 and 5 rooms).
• Create cable types using connectors sized and colored to depict cable type, uplink speed, trunk/access type, and/or port group.
• Import appropriate device stencils (e.g. Cisco, PAN, Dell, etc.)
• Begin discovery by logging in to network devices starting with the demarc server room and branching outwards into the network.
• Collect common information on all devices within the server rooms (IP, name, room #, connection type, etc.)
• Add devices to logical topology diagram and organize them neatly, separating each site by tabs.
• Visually connect devices using pre-made connectors.
• Label all devices and add necessary information.
• Confirm datacenter setup and create the neatly organized diagrams based on the site template appearance.
• At some point, confirm the diagrams are accurate with a site visit.
